Xecê is the heroine of Siyabend û Xecê. The name’s pre-literary etymology is uncertain — it belongs to the same folk-onomastic stratum as Mem, Zîn, Siyabend. In many regional variants she is the daughter of a chief, a counter-figure to the social order that the story finally cannot bear.
