Refers to the Serhat region in northern Kurdistan — historically a region of resistance.
Etymology
Root: sar + ḥadd · Persian
Serhad — frontier, border country. From Persian sar-ḥadd (literally head of the boundary). In Kurdish use it names the highland border-region around Mount Ararat — historically a frontier between the Ottoman, Safavid and (later) Russian empires.
